Manufacturing

Making the world turn

The estimates may vary, but despite recent figures there’s no denying that the UK’s manufacturing sector remains a force to be reckoned with: one of the world’s biggest manufacturing nations employing nearly three million people directly, investing massively in R&D, and generating 10% of GDP1.  Factor in the indirect effect of complex supply chains, and one alternative view is that the sector accounts for 23% of GDP and almost 7.5million jobs2.

The businesses involved in manufacturing are as broad as the classification itself, but innovative start-ups with cutting edge technology and established multi-national corporates share common challenges and concerns.

Embracing new technologies, products and processes can deliver greater productivity and competitive advantage, but the advent of Industry 4.0 will have a significant impact on employment, skills and investment.  In addition, the domestic and international trading platforms are changing to create a more challenging environment to trade in for manufacturers (including logistics on border controls and movement of goods and people), therefore it is important to be on top of the issues.

How we've helped

DMH Stallard sponsors METALL, an established forum for manufacturing, engineering and technology businesses in the Gatwick Diamond area.  The forum brings together businesses to network at thought-provoking presentations and workshops, share best practice, signpost growth opportunities, and discuss issues affecting businesses in this sector in particular.

You can find more information on the METALL website and register to receive information about forthcoming events here.
